The Township of Perry has proclaimed today, September 28, British Home Child Day to honour the memory of the British Home Children and their descendants. REMEMBER to leave your Porch Light on overnight in recognition of these children.
Between 1869-1948, over 100,000 children of all ages, some as young as 4, were emigrated from the United Kingdom to Canada. These children were used as farm workers and domestics. It’s estimated that over 10% of the current population in Canada are descended from these Home Children.
